John DeLuca, a 67-year-old man from Massachusetts, died Wednesday after a fall while goat hunting in the remote mountains near Cordova, Alaska. According to the Alaska State Troopers, DeLuca lost his footing and fell about 100 feet from Queen’s Chair around 10:45 a.m. The U.S. Coast Guard was dispatched by helicopter and discovered him unresponsive at the scene. After being flown to a local clinic in Cordova, he was pronounced dead. A family member who accompanied DeLuca also fell during the incident, suffering serious injuries but is expected to recover. Troopers reported that the pair was attempting a traverse below a ridge when the fall occurred. Trooper spokesperson Tess Williams noted that the companion tried to grab DeLuca before they both fell. Queen's Chair is located approximately 150 miles east of Anchorage, Alaska.
